Indispensapp
Informativa sulla privacy
4. Chi vede i tuoi dati nelle liste condivise
12. Dove stanno i dati e fornitori
- Supabase (database e accesso): server nell'Unione europea, in Irlanda.
- Contatori d'uso settimanali: 8 settimane.
15. I tuoi diritti
Indispensapp
Privacy policy
1. Data controller
The data controller is Francesco Russo, a private individual who develops and runs Indispensapp. Contact: support.indispensapp@gmail.com.
2. What data we collect
- Account: name, email address and identifier of your Google account; Google also gives us the address of your profile picture, which the app does not use. Also your language, your choice about the anonymous statistics consent and the version of the Terms you accepted, with the date.
- List content: names of lists and pantries, items, quantities, expiry dates, notes, cart, shopping packs, the pantry where you usually put each item, the minimum stock you choose for a product and the cooked dishes you add.
- Scanned products: the barcode of the items you scan or type in, saved with the item in the list.
- Activity on items: when an item is bought from the cart, consumed or deleted we record an event with the type of action, the item name, the quantity, the pantry, the day and time, the list and who did it. When you delete an item we also save how much it was worth, calculated on your phone from the prices of the list's purchases or estimated from the last price paid for the same product.
- Purchases: for each product bought from the cart or added from a receipt we save with the list the name, quantity, department, day and time and, when available, the price paid, unit price, currency and shop (only the name of the chain or shop: never the address, branch, VAT number, receipt time or payment details). Purchases do not show who recorded them.
- Recipes: the recipes you opened (unlocked), those you save as favourites, the votes you give and your reports of wrong photos, linked to your account. The allergens you choose on the Recipes page stay only on your phone: we do not receive them.
- Plan and subscription: your plan (Free, Premium or Premium+), its status, the period (monthly or yearly), the expiry, auto-renewal, the store and the product purchased (section 10).
- Themes and fonts: those you unlocked and how (with coins or a purchase). The theme and font you are using stay only on your phone.
- Coins: your coin balance, any ad-free day, how many rewarded videos you watched today and a log of every movement (a coin earned with a video, with the AdMob view code, or spent, with what you used it for) (section 11).
- Usage counters: how many receipts you read, how many recipes you generate and how many new recipes you open each week (counters on the server); barcode scans are counted only on your phone.
- Technical data: our providers record technical data about connections (for example IP address and time of requests) for security and operation; to prevent abuse we briefly record the time of the most expensive requests (section 13).
3. Why we use it
- To let you use the app (performance of the contract, i.e. the Terms): your account, syncing lists between your devices and with the other members, suggesting recipes, reading receipts, keeping the purchase history with prices and shop, minimum stock.
- For the list statistics (performance of the contract): from the events our server calculates a monthly summary for each list (items consumed and deleted, value of the waste in euros, which ones are deleted most). List members see it and it does not show who did what.
- For your plan, coins and usage limits (performance of the contract): knowing which plan you have, how many coins you have and how many uses you have left this week.
- For the security of the service and against abuse (legitimate interest): technical data and request caps.
- For advertising in the Free plan: personalised ads only with your consent; otherwise non-personalised ads (section 11).
- For anonymous statistics on food waste, only with your consent (section 5).
We do not sell your data. No data from your lists reaches the ads: no items, pantries, allergens, recipes or purchases.
4. Who sees your data in shared lists
List members see all of its content, including the prices and shop of purchases, the minimum stock, the shopping packs and food waste in euros, and the name and email of the other members. If you leave a list or are removed, the other members no longer see your name and email; the items you added stay in the list. Nobody else sees your plan, your coins or the recipes you opened.
5. Anonymous statistics (optional)
After a few days of use we ask you, once, whether you want to contribute anonymously to general statistics on food waste, which we will also use for public reports and to improve the app. We do not sell this data. Consent is optional, never pre-selected, refusing changes nothing in the app and you can change your mind at any time from Settings → Privacy. Your answer is saved with your profile. These statistics are not active yet: today no data is used for this purpose. When they are, they will only use totals of at least 50 households, with no location data, no identifiers, no sensitive categories (for example alcohol) and never the shop, and only data from people who gave their consent. We will update this Privacy policy before turning them on.
6. Expiry notifications
The expiry notification is optional and is prepared and shown directly on your phone: it does not go through our servers and we do not use push notification services. You can turn it off from the app's or the phone's Settings.
7. Scanner and Open Food Facts
- The scanner camera is only used to read the barcode: images are processed on your phone and are not saved or sent to anyone. On Android, reading uses Google's ML Kit technology, which sends Google only technical usage metrics, never the images.
- To recognise a product, the app asks Open Food Facts (a French association that runs a free database of food products) directly for the product data and photo. Open Food Facts receives the barcode, your phone's IP address and the app's name and version with our contact, as happens with any website; it does not receive your name, your email or any other account data. Open Food Facts processes this data as an independent controller, under its own privacy policy.
- The data and photos of scanned products stay saved on your phone (up to 300 products) to show them offline too; they are erased when you sign out. The count of this week's scans also stays on your phone.
8. Recipes and artificial intelligence
- To write new recipes and translate product names we use artificial intelligence models from Mistral AI (France) with data processed in the European Union, through OpenRouter (a company based in the United States). They are paid models, chosen among those that do not keep data or use it for training.
- We send these services ONLY: entries from our ingredient list (for example "courgettes", "eggs"); the name of the dish you search for, only if the catalogue does not have that recipe (up to 60 characters); the name of a product to translate (up to 80 characters, without the barcode). We do not send your name, your email or any other account data, nor the names of your lists and items.
- The text you type in the search may therefore reach these services: do not type personal data in the search. We do not store the text you search for; the recipe created joins the shared catalogue with no link to you.
- Recipe photos: to find them we send the Pixabay and Unsplash image libraries a short English description of the dish (no personal data). To check that a photo really shows the dish we send a Mistral AI model with data processed in the European Union only the photo's address and the recipe title. Pixabay photos are copied to our servers; Unsplash photos are downloaded by your phone directly from Unsplash, which receives your phone's IP address as happens with any website.
9. Receipts
- You take the photo with your phone's document scanner: on Android the one in Google Play services (ML Kit), on iPhone Apple's. Google's scanner sends Google only technical usage metrics, never the image.
- Before sending, the photo is reduced and cleaned on your phone (no location or other camera data). It then goes to our servers and from there, through OpenRouter, to a Mistral AI model with data processed in the European Union, chosen among those that do not keep data or use it for training.
- We do not keep the photo. For one day we only keep a numeric fingerprint of the photos (which cannot be used to rebuild them), so that you are not charged twice for reading the same receipt again.
- A receipt may contain other data, such as part of your payment card or loyalty card number: we do not save or use it. We do not read pharmacy receipts: the service recognises them and stops without returning any data.
- Until you add the products, the review is saved as a draft only on your phone, for up to 24 hours.
10. Subscriptions and in-app purchases
- Premium and Premium+ subscriptions and individual themes and fonts are bought with the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google) payment system. The store handles the payment as an independent controller, under its own privacy policy: we never see your card details.
- To manage purchases we use RevenueCat (a company based in the United States), which processes data on our behalf. RevenueCat receives the random code that identifies your account (not your name or email), the purchase and subscription information coming from the store (product, dates, price, currency, store country, renewal status) and technical data about your phone (operating system, app version). When you delete your account we ask RevenueCat to delete your customer record too.
- On our server we only save the result: your plan, its status, the period, the expiry, auto-renewal, the store and the product, and the themes and fonts you bought.
11. Advertising, consent and coins
- In the Free plan the app shows Google AdMob ads (Google Ireland Limited). Ads never appear on the Home, Cart, Pantries and Scanner screens. Premium and Premium+ have no ads.
- Before the first ad we ask for your consent with Google's form (compliant with IAB Europe's Transparency & Consent Framework). With consent Google may show you personalised ads; without it, it shows non-personalised ads, for which it still uses some data to prevent fraud, limit how often you see the same ad and count views. On iPhone the app also asks for Apple's tracking permission: if you refuse, Google does not receive your phone's advertising identifier. You can change your choice at any time from the app's Settings (Ad preferences).
- Depending on your choices, the Google AdMob SDK collects from your phone the device advertising identifier (on Android, the Google advertising ID), the IP address (from which it derives an approximate location), data about the phone and the app and your interactions with ads. The app does not ask for your location. On Android the SDK may also use the system's advertising features (Privacy Sandbox), if they are active on the phone. Google processes it under its own policy: how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- We pass no data of our own to the ads: no keywords, no app pages, no data about your lists, pantries, allergens or recipes.
- Rewarded videos and coins: you can choose to watch a video to earn a coin. Together with the video we pass Google only a single-use code created by our server for that video: it contains nothing about you and only we know which account it belongs to. At the end Google sends that code back to our server to confirm that the video was watched, and only then is the coin credited. Coins cannot be bought, have no monetary value and can only be used inside the app: for Shop extras, to open new recipes, for a day without ads and for themes and fonts.
12. Where the data is stored and providers
Data is stored on your phone and on the servers of our providers, who process it on our behalf:
- Supabase (database and sign-in): servers in the European Union, in Ireland.
- PowerSync (sync between phone and server): servers in the European Union, in Ireland.
- OpenRouter and Mistral AI (artificial intelligence): they receive only the data described in sections 8 and 9; OpenRouter may process it in the United States, Mistral AI processes it in the European Union.
- RevenueCat (purchases and subscriptions): may process data in the United States (section 10).
- Google (ML Kit on Android): receives only technical usage metrics, never the images.
Independent controllers, under their own policies: Google for sign-in with your Google account and for AdMob advertising (section 11), Apple and Google as stores for payments (section 10), Open Food Facts, Pixabay and Unsplash (sections 7 and 8). For transfers outside the European Union we rely on the safeguards provided by the GDPR (for example standard contractual clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).
13. How long we keep data
- Account, plan, coins and coin log, unlocked themes and fonts, opened recipes, favourites, votes and reports: until you delete your account (or until you remove them).
- When you delete an item, a pantry or a list, it disappears from the app but stays saved on the server as deleted, as long as the list exists. When you delete your account, lists left with no other members are fully erased, with all their content.
- Item events, purchases and monthly summaries: as long as the list exists.
- Weekly usage counters: 8 weeks. Time of requests for the abuse caps: 2 days. Single-use codes of rewarded videos: 2 days. Fingerprint of receipt photos: 1 day.
- On your phone, data is kept while you are signed in; it is erased when you sign out. The app excludes its data from the automatic Android and iPhone backups.
- The stores keep the purchase history under their own rules; RevenueCat until you delete your account; Google keeps advertising data under its own policy.
14. Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Settings → Delete account (internet required). Your profile and your sign-in are erased; you leave all lists and the other members no longer see your name and email; lists you owned with other members pass to the longest-standing member, those left with no other members are fully erased, with their content; in lists that stay with others, events and purchases remain in anonymous form; your favourites, votes, reports, opened recipes, plan, coins, coin log, unlocked themes and fonts and usage counters are erased; we ask RevenueCat to delete your customer record; the data on your phone is erased. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription: unless you cancel it in the subscription settings of the App Store or Google Play, you will keep being charged. If you no longer have the app you can request deletion by writing to support.indispensapp@gmail.com from your account's address.
15. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict its use, receive it in a readable format (portability) or object to its processing, and you can withdraw your consent to anonymous statistics and to personalised advertising at any time. Write to support.indispensapp@gmail.com. If you believe your data is not being handled correctly you can lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) or with the authority of the country where you live.
16. Minimum age
Indispensapp is not intended for people under 18. If we find out that an account belongs to someone younger, we will delete it.
17. Changes
If we change this Privacy policy we will show it to you in the app with a summary of the changes.
